Things To Do When Hiring A Wedding Band

By Lee Collings

Planning a wedding and reception is no easy task. There is a lot to do and there is a lot of stress that comes with the job. An important aspect of the reception is the music so this is not something that you are going to want to over look.

There are different ways to bring music into your reception but the two most common ways would be to use a DJ or a wedding band. The wedding band is usually the more popular choice between the two and it is something that you will want to give a lot of thought.

The first thing that you should do when you are looking for a wedding band is to try to catch them performing. In general most bands typically have public gigs outside of private events so check with them on these so that you can try to take in a performance. Additionally, you may also want to ask them if they have a demo CD or preferably a video for you to take a look at. This will give you an idea of whether this band is a good fit for your wedding reception.

If the band has a website, you will want to make sure to check it out as it will provide you with a lot of the information you need. There are generally photos, musical tracks, and videos to review, all of which will give you a clear understanding of how professional the band is.

Additionally, you can often find testimonials on their website that can give you an idea of what previous clients have thought of working with them. Their website will also usually have a list of the bands repertoire which is important for you to take a look at.

With so many different types of music out there, you want to try and make sure that you are selecting a wedding band that will play music that will appeal to most of your guests. Think about what the average age of your wedding guests is and you should have no trouble selecting the music you want for the reception.

Make sure that you are also looking over the price of the wedding band as well as the price is always a determining factor. You will want to make sure that you are at least having one conversation with the band manager and that you have decided a clear and fair price for the event. Be prepared to give a non-refundable deposit when you go to turn in your contract.

About a week before your wedding you will want to call the wedding band to confirm the details of your event. You will want to be sure that their wardrobe is going to be appropriate for your event as well as that they know what time they can arrive to set up.

Remember that the band is likely to have travelled a long way to play at your event so it is only common curtesy to ensure that you provide them with a meal. Lastly, be sure that you give your wedding band a timeline of events for the evening so they are able to work with the flow of the event.
