NBA's Iverson Memphis Bound

By Randy LaRoche

Although I detest Allen Iverson due to what he caused in Detroit with my team, damaging what was an especially tightly knit unit that happened to be one of the most talented organizations in the East, I must set my dislike for the guy to the side.

Not because I want to, it's because the biggest signing in the existence of the Memphis Grizzlies' franchise took place on Wednesday. AI finally answered the doubt that a variety of fans of the team have been inquiring about.

Will he really end up in Memphis?

By means of Twitter, Iverson, who will soon be earning $3.5 million this year for Memphis, finished all of the speculation and agreed provisionally to join the Grizzlies, his third franchise in the most recent 4 seasons.

The contract additionally contains bonuses for making the playoffs, one thing that has not happened dating back to '06 (when they fell victim to the Mavs during the first round), and if they win the NBA finals.

Over the seasons, Iverson has had obstacles perceiving leadership and accepting any role that comes to him (example: the Pistons) and clashing with coaches (i.e.: the 76ers), which is why very few organizations happened to be interested in him after his failure in Detroit.

Now he has shot to do something comparable to what he achieved in Philly (when he entered the league) and turn the fortunes of this team around and make it happen with a trio of youthful stars in O.J. Mayo, Rudy Gay, and Hasheem Thabeet.

While we should not pencil the Grizzlies in for the post-season by any account, it is not hard to say that they will be better from last season.

If Iverson stays for greater than one year, perhaps there could be an opportunity, although I don't suppose people should get their hopes up on the fact that the Grizzlies will reach the post-season.

It's too premature.
