A Young Boy With Tall Dreams

By Elyse Romell

Bobby LaPonte is admittedly just a youth. He's six seasons young, an only child, and lives with his family in Johns Creek, Ga. .

Though Bobby possesses large goals. While jovial in age, he is totally focused on his dream to one day drive in NASCAR's large scene, the Sprint Cup Series.

Bobby's dreams are so big, actually, that he often dreams about driving with the big fellows. According to his folks, Larry and Nancy, he even makes the sound of racecars while asleep.

Larry thinks that his boy got his interest in racing while still in the womb.

"I raced the amateur road course circuit for 10 seasons," he said. "When my spouse was expecting with Bobby, she used to be there to see me race and we suppose that's when Bobby began his love of racing."

A lot akin to Jeff Gordon and his daughter Ella, the LaPontes maintain pictures of baby Bobby jumping in and back out his father's auto when he was just a toddler.

Bobby might practice each day if he was able to, and he gets that chance with the extensive race year, from March to November, in the Southern component of the country. He and his father race each weekend, often driving to other states, including Alabama, North Carolina, and Tennessee, to participate in their regional races.

This past July, Bobby took park in his first nationwide championship event. He won his semifinal heat competition.

Bobby is fast to notify you that he races quarter midgets, a lesser variety of the USAC Midget Sprint cars that Cup racers like NASCAR's finals point head Tony Stewart started his career driving.

Bobby lets you understand that because he intends to follow in Stewart's footprints and follow that equal path in his own driving career.

This tiny guy indeed is looking forward to satisfying his big NASCAR dreams, that of driving with his idols in the years in store.
